I want to upgrade the VersionBackup software to the latest Release. How should I do this? Is it necessary to enter my configuration again?

Start the function "Check for Software Updates" on the dialog page "Overview". Click on "Check" and "Download" and confirm the update installation.
This will install the newest VersionBackup software on your system. It is not necessary to uninstall VersionBackup before that. All settings will be valid even with the new software. And of course, your backups will be still available.
Before the installation is done, you will get information if your software license is valid even for the new issue.

Please note: Because no new VersionBackup licenses will be sold any more, an update from an older issue to VersionBackup 5 will no more be possible.

How can I find out the additional functions of the newest software?

Start the function "Check for Software Updates" on the dialog page "Overview". If you then click on the "Check" button, the information about the newest software will be fetched from the Internet.
Click on "Expand" to display this list. To show more items, click on "medium display volume" or "big display volume".

Alternatively, you can view the Internet Page New Functions with you Internet Browser. Even there, you will get information about of the available improvements.
On this page, you can enter the Release Version, which you will refer to. Then, the improvements since this Release will be listed.

Please note: Because no new VersionBackup licenses will be sold any more, an update from an older issue to VersionBackup 5 will no more be possible.

Can I run VersionBackup Master on a server computer?

To save the data of a server, VersionBackup Server has been designed. VersionBackup Master is optimized for Workstations.

If a Workstation Operating System (Windows XP©, Windows 7© or Windows 8©, e.g.) is running on your server, then the usage of VersionBackup Master is possible (but not recommended).

If a Server Operating System (Windows 2008 Server©, e.g.) is running on the computer, then applying VersionBackup Master is not possible. Then, you must use VersionBackup Server.

Can I run VersionBackup Server on a computer with a Workstation Operating System?

VersionBackup Server can be run even on computers with Workstation Operating System.
This enables you to use the full VersionBackup Server functionality on a small data server, where for reasons on economy Windows XP©, Windows 7© or Windows 8© has been installed.

My computer or Server does not run with Windows© (but with LINUX©, e.g.). Is it possible saving the data with VersionBackup?

VersionBackup has been implemented only for Windows© Operating Systems.

Nevertheless, it is possible saving the data with VersionBackup, which are stored on a LINUX© Server, e.g.
To do this, set up any Windows© computer as a backup server. On this device, VersonBackup should be configured to fetch the data from the LINUX©-Server and store it on the local disks.
